Achievement Centers for Children

The Achievement Centers for Children (ACC) began as a Rotary Club of Cleveland service project in 1940 as the Society for Crippled Children. Our name was changed to Achievement Centers for Children in 1988 to reflect our strong commitment to the discovery and strengthening of abilities that lead to new behaviors, unexpected achievements, and sustainable outcomes. The Achievement Centers for Children serves children and adults with a broad range of disabilities and special needs including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other physical, developmental, neurological, and emotional challenges. Our mission is to empower children and adults with disabilities and their families to achieve their greatest potential.

The Achievement Centers for Children uses a family-centered approach to provide comprehensive services for children and adults with disabilities and their families at three area locations: Highland Hills, Westlake, Camp Cheerful in Strongsville and virtual and telehealth services. Each family works in partnership with an interdisciplinary team to design a program that will meet the needs and achieve the goals of each child and their family. Many individuals are served by multiple programs, helping to ensure that their various needs are being addressed.

At the Achievement Centers for Children, we provide many of our programs regardless of a family’s ability to pay. Last fiscal year, this equated to over $1.3 million in subsidized services, with 83% of every contributed dollar going directly to providing services to those most in need. In 2020 the Achievement Centers for Children received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest possible rating, for demonstrating strong financial health, commitment to accountability and executing our mission in a financially efficient way, for the seventh consecutive year.

In Fiscal Year 2020–2021, many of the clients served by the Achievement Centers participated in, or received, multiple programs and services. Over the past year, the agency provided 4,374 programs and services (duplicated) to 2,820 individuals and their families. 94% of clients who receive services at the Achievement Centers for Children achieve or partially achieve their individualized goals, including improved functional skills (crawling, walking, talking); increased academic achievement; and improved social/emotional development (interacting with peers, managing stress, coping with a disability).
